When our Bible Study groups meet in person on Saturday mornings, attendees have the opportunity to voluntarily give any amount of money they feel led to contribute to the Bible Study fund. To be clear, their donations are not used to pay for coffee and donuts. The study leaders deliver the donations to our treasurer who deposits it in a bank account. Money from the account is used to pay travel expenses and/or honorariums to the speakers at the various men's Bible study events during the year. More importantly, we provide funds to advance Christian causes - two local, one national and one global organization. Below is information about the four organizations we support financially.
First Liberty Institute: Our "National" charity
They are the largest legal organization in the nation dedicated exclusively to defending religious liberty for all Americans. We believe that every American of any faith — or no faith at all — has a fundamental right to follow their conscience and live according to their beliefs. Our nation’s Founding Fathers established this right as our First Freedom nearly two and a half centuries ago, and we intend to keep it that way. (https:/firstliberty.org)
Jesus Film Project: "Worldwide" charity
The Great Commission is the instruction of the resurrected Jesus Christ to his disciples to spread his teachings to all the nations of the world. The most famous version of the Great Commission is in Matthew 28:16–20, where on a mountain in Galilee Jesus calls on his followers to make disciples of and baptize all nations in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The goal of the Jesus Film Project is to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to all people of the earth. We will be sending regular contributions to this project. (https://www.jesusfilm.org)
Denton Freedom House: "Local" charity
The local outreach is one we have supported for several years with a monthly donation of $100. Their Mission statement is:
To liberate the broken from their bondage of sin and addiction by the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to equip them to become prosperous disciples of Christ with Kingdom vision, purpose and direction.
